McKinney National Airport breaks ground on new hangar

The McKinney National Airport recently broke ground on a new 10,000-square-foot hangar that will accommodate transient aircraft, from single-engine aircraft to medium-size jet aircraft for either long-term or short-term stays. The airport secured contracts to completely fill the new hangar before construction began.

“As more pilots learn McKinney National Airport is a first-rate option for corporate jets, general aviation and business customers, hangar space will continue to be in high demand,” said Ken Wiegand, McKinney National Airport Director. “We offer incredible amenities like on-site customs, a location on the fringe of Class-B airspace and award-winning ground services. McKinney National Airport is open for business.”

McKinney National Airport is home to business aircraft that travel worldwide. In 2012, the airport received national designation by the FAA and renamed the airport to McKinney National Airport to don its newly earned categorical ranking. The national category designation is earned by the number of annual operations, sophistication of infrastructure, aero-medical service and number and type of based aircraft. Only 84 general aviation airports in the country are in this national category.

McKinney Air Center, the fixed-base operator (FBO) that provides fuel and other services to aircraft at McKinney National Airport, was voted the best in the nation in the 2016 Pilots’ Choice Awards by FltPlan.com. In addition, the Pete and Nancy Huff Air Traffic Control Tower at McKinney National Airport was named #3 in the Pilots’ Choice Awards and was also awarded the 2015 Facility of the Year by Robinson Aviation Inc. for its significant contributions to the safety and efficiency of the National Airspace System.

Ad valorem tax revenue generated by the airport and FBO helps pays for local road improvements, emergency services, education and more. For additional information on McKinney National Airport and McKinney Air Center, visit the airport website.
